Big Turnout for “March for Babies”
April 23 -- Perfect spring weather helped set the stage for a large group that turned out late this afternoon for the annual "March for Babies" that was sponsored by the March of Dimes. At least 40 teams participated in the event which began with a walk west on Liberty Street and continued on the return route via Columbia Street to the starting point at Long Park.
This year's march netted an impressive $46,000 for use by the March of Dimes in its efforts to save lives due to birth defects and premature births. Once back at Long Park participants were treated to hot dogs donated and prepared by volunteers from US Bank. Other major sponsors of the event included Parkland Health Center, Ozarks Federal Savings and Loan, St. Francis Medical Center, the Daily Journal, B104.3, BJC Medical Group, Medical Arts Clinic, Mineral Area Regional Medical Center, Handi-Craft, First State Community Bank, and US Tool Group.
