Knights 35 vs. Cape Central 40
Knights Drop a Heartbreaker to the Cape Central Tigers
Friday night's match up between two undefeated Class 4 District 1 rivals lived up to the billing in a barn burner of a game that went down to the wire when it was finally decided in the final four seconds.
Cape Central would jump out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter after a 78-yard touchdown drive by Central standout running back Aaron Harris -- his second of the quarter. Tycen Gray would get the Knights in the scoring column with 1:39 left in the quarter on a 7-yard touchdown run making it a 14-7 score at the end of the first quarter. Central QB Cameron Cox would connect with Joe Baker for a 40-yard touchdown reception late in the second quarter. After a failed extra point attempt, the score would remain 20-7 until 31 seconds remaining in the first half when Farmington Knight Defensive back Devan Hughes dropped back in coverage and picked a Cox pass and returned it for a 20-yard score to bring the halftime score at 20-14.
Cape Central hit a wall in the third quarter by not scoring a single point while the Knights went ahead for the first time in the game at the 1:39 mark of the third quarter on a 12-yard touchdown run by Tycen Gray and an extra point by Krause, giving
Farmington a 21-20 lead into the fourth quarter. It was a tale of four quarters because Cape Central woke up in this frame by outscoring the Knights 20-15. This was all capped off late in the quarter after Farmington had just scored to take the lead with just 19 seconds left on the clock on an 8-yard pass play from QB Nathaniel Link to Cody Wright; and a two point conversion from Tycen Gray put the Knights up 35-34 with 19 seconds on the clock. Central would put the last nail in the coffin for the Knights with just 4 seconds left on the clock when QB Cox would connect with Harris one last time for a 41-yard pass and run a touchdown ending the game with the final score Cape Central 40 vs Farmington Knights 35. This was the SEMO Conference North opener for both teams. Farmington will next be in action when they return home to host the undefeated Poplar Bluff Mules on Friday night.
