Annual Krekeler-Chamber Christmas Parade — Which Is Bigger This Year— Attracts Large Crowd
December 6. — With warmer temperatures compared to past past years, a large crowd turned out tonight for the annual Christmas parade downtown. Sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and Krekeler Jewelers, the event this year seemed to feature more floats — with enhanced decorations — than in past years.
Among the main attractions were the Black Knight Marching Band, which played the parade’s theme song this year: “'Twas the Night Before Christmas” and other seasonal favorites like “Jingle Bells” and "Home for the Holidays.” Many of the floats featured their own theme songs, some of which included the Christmas favorite, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” from the 1944 classic MGM film, “Meet Me in St. Louis.” Fire trucks were another highlight of the parade, which included a Model-T era entry with Chicago markings. As has been the tradition of this parade, Mr. and Mrs. Santa Clause rode on the extensively-decorated Farmington Fire Dept. entry on their way to greet children at Long Memorial Hall.
The parade also coincided with the opening of Winter Wonderland at the auditorium at Long Memorial Hall. Once the doors were opened, the hall quickly filled with children of all ages who wanted to see Santa Clause and view the holiday decorated miniature city packed with running model trains.
