Knights Split BB Game with Sullivan & Cape Central at New FHS Field House
On Wednesday December 21, 2016 the much anticipated inaugural games in the new Black Knight Fieldhouse would finally be a reality for the Farmington Knights basketball fans. Most fans that I spoke with at the game had the same reaction of being very pleased with the facility which most think will usher in a new era in Farmington Knights basketball. First game of the evening would feature the Farmington Knightettes vs the Sullivan Lady Eagles. Sullivan would jump out to an early lead in the contest and never really look back although the Knightettes would make several short runs never closing the gap. The Knightettes were led on the evening by junior point guard Allison Tucker (who scored the first basket in the new gym) who went (5-6) on the night with 15 points while the Lady Eagles were led by forward Clair Shetley with 23 points on their way to a 62-40 win over the Knightettes.
Game two would feature the Farmington Knights (5-1) vs the Cape Central Tigers (3-3). It was apparent that playing in their first game in a new gym that the Knights' nerves would not be an issue when they broke out early with a 15-4 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Cape Central did make a fourth quarter run after Farmington led most of the game by 20 points. Senior guard Jewone Newwell rattled off 13 points to lead the Tigers with 20 on the night. Farmington was led by Brendon Hardy who scored 20 while Tycen Gray chipped in 17 points and 7 rebounds on the way to a 74-58 early season win. Fundamentally the Knights have a very solid team this year and they have quality shooters on the outside with a couple developing big men in the paint. As a fan you can tell the style of basketball they are playing starts with head coach Justin Callahan. They are very efficient with the shots they take and they turn the ball over very little which is formula for sucess at the high school level. With the win the Farmington Knights move to 6-1 on the season entering the Central Christmas tournament ranked number 2 behind Hillsboro. Farmington will next play at home on January 6 when they host rival North County Raiders.
