Farmington 13 vs. North County 10
Knights Have Close Call With North County
After controlling the clock and pace of the game for nearly the entire game August 25, 2017 at Richardson Field, North County seemed to have stopped playing in the final 90 seconds of the game to give their arch rival Knights a 13-10 win.
North County drew first blood with just 6:37 left in the first period when Briley Smith took a short 15-yard pass into the end zone for the initial score of the contest. Sean Pruneau caught the pass to add two more points on the two point conversion to make it 8-0 North County. Farmington would not reach the end-zone until late in the second half after a blocked punt by Devin Hughes gave the Knights great field position on the North County 30 yard-line. The knights would squander this opportunity and fail to score until their next possession when Tyson Gray squirted through the line and split the Defensive backs on his way to a 90-yard touchdown run. The Half time score would find the North County Raiders leading the Farmington Knights 8-6.
While those watching might think the game was being dominated by North County, it could be misleading. North County would only score one touchdown in the game. Their only other score of the night would come on a safety when Jaelen Reed sacked quarterback Nathaniel Link after the Knights defense forced North County to turn the ball over on downs deep in the Knights territory. North County controlled the clock most of the second half with the Knights defense standing tough all night led by Senior Colby Barnes with 9 solo tackles, and teammates Carson Sutton 8, and Tyson Gray, Devin Hughes, and Cody Wright with 5 each.
The score would remain 10-6 until 1:50 left to play when Cody Wright snagged a pass from Quarterback Nathanial Link and was able to get the corner to the right side and took it to the house for the touchdown. Parker Hastings would add the extra point to give the Knights the final lead of the evening at 13-10. The Knights defense, as they had done all night, only allowing one score, would hold the Raiders on their final possession of the evening.
